Affiliate Marketing: The Parasitic Sales Strategy

By Neil Morrical

This method is already in use by successful affiliates and is earning them loads of commissions. It does not require a whole lot of effort and is basically an extension of the Adwords point made earlier. In this scenario, the higher the gravity for the product in the market place, the better. (Do not attempt this if the product has a gravity of less than 50.) Here’s the basic concept:

Create a Pre-Sales Page Following the Structure Outlined Below:

Use an Attention Grabbing Headline in Your Ad and Pre-Sales Page

What do I mean by this? Just what it says. When someone is considering whether or not they should purchase a product, they usually have some doubts. You want to leverage their doubts to bring you sales. How do you do this? Well, you need to think of a Powerful Headline for your ad and Pre-Sales Page. Here are a few examples:

Is the Website Solutions Manual a Complete Waste of Time?

Affiliate Marketing Adsense Example

Notice that all of these headlines raise some form of doubt. If someone were doing a search for the Website Solutions Manual (When they are about to purchase) and came across one of these ads, they would almost definitely click on it to investigate further. This will get them to your Pre-Sales Page.

Next, your Pre-Sales Page must follow a certain format in order to have a high conversion rate. Here are the main pieces to the puzzle which will provide the best results:

Identify Yourself:

In order to get anyone to read your review you are going to have to first get their attention. This can be done by a number of ways, but I suggest the following, as I have had the most success with it. Empathy… It sells. All you have to do is identify yourself with the customer. By this I mean: Come off as being in the same situation as them at one time or another. This helps make a customer see you as their friend, even when they’ve never met you. Your goal should be to use empathy to identify with the customer and let them know that you have already purchased the product in the past. (Yes, you may have to purchase products you affiliate so that you will know exactly what they are.)

Why or How Did You Initially Purchase or Come by This Product?

Tell a story. That’s it, pure and simple. Again, use empathy throughout this section to identify with what might be holding the customer back from buying.

What Did You First Think About the Product?

Here you can actually stall a possible refund. I mean think about it. Some products are outstanding and loaded with great material; they’re just presented in the wrong way. If you can let people know, “It starts off slow, but there are some great pieces on…” Then you might just save yourself from a few refunds.

What are Your Results So Far with This Product?

If your results were good, Let Them Know! People want to know as much about a product as they can before they purchase it. That’s the whole reason they will land on your Pre-Sales Page.

Add a Commenting Script:

This Technique Can Work Both Ways (Send or Divert to Another Product for Sales.) This may sound like a pain in the ass, but let’s just look at this piece of the puzzle… (Installing a comment script is quick and easy so don’t worry.) The reason they are reading your review is that they want to know more about the product they are interested in purchasing and they want to make sure they don’t buy a piece of crap. With a commenting script you can show your visitor what other people, besides you, are saying about the product.

If you are promoting that product you can weight the responses toward your goal. If you are trying to promote that product, then only approve positive comments. (Add a few of your own in there to get things started.) Here is a free script I found for comment posting, but there are many others out there as well.

Find Something Wrong With the Product and Offer a Bonus to Remedy

Does the product have poor training videos and pdf’s? Maybe you could make your own and offer it as a bonus to those who buy through your link. Other ideas include: offering a product you have created or own rights to as a complimentary program or piece of information which ads serious value to the product. (Maybe even doubles its value.) The key is: You must add a bonus which is complimentary to the product. (Makes it better, Doesn’t replace it.) This is what you are going to use to motivate sales through your link instead of someone else’s.

Call to Action

Follow this format, remember that you must build up a need for your bonus within your Pre-Sales Page in order for this to work and provide you with high conversions.

Call to Action Example

Wrap it All Up

The most successful technique to make this approach work is the following. Use Adwords to send traffic to the Pre-Sales Page, but only use the product’s Brand Name OR Title as you keywords. This will narrow down your competition and allow you to take advantage of potentially pre-sold prospects. That is the power behind this concept. Find people already interested in the product and collect the commissions for their purchases.
